Deepen Your Practice with the Ultimate Guide to Yoga and Human Physiology

Yoga Asana Physiology is a unique, comprehensive, and highly accessible guide that seamlessly bridges the gap between modern medical science and the traditional practice of yoga. Written by Dr. Hermann Traitteur—a licensed medical doctor with a background in orthopedics and decades of experience as an advanced Iyengar Yoga teacher and therapist—this brand-new release is an indispensable resource for yoga teachers, students, practitioners, and healthcare professionals alike.

A Heartfelt Partnership & Human Connection

At Ananda Hum, we believe that yoga is as much about community and human connection as it is about practice. Having previously met Hermann at the German Iyengar Yoga Convention, I experienced firsthand what a beautiful and dedicated soul he is. Bringing meaningful, transparent relationships with authors and suppliers to the core of this shop is incredibly important to me. Following the success of his first book, Yoga Asana Anatomy, I am absolutely overjoyed to bring his latest masterpiece directly to our community.

Language & Purchase Note: The version available here at Ananda Hum is the English edition. If you prefer to read the book in its original German text, you can purchase the German edition directly from Hermann's studio website at Iyengar Yoga Berlin.

Explore the Body from the Inside Out

Unlike traditional medical textbooks that can feel rigid, or standard yoga manuals that lack clinical precision, this book systematically explores how asanas actively influence the inner functioning of the human body.

Each chapter meticulously covers the anatomy and regulation of major bodily organs, showing how individual poses and sequences impact your overall health. You will explore the physiological effects of yoga across the body’s core systems, including:

  • Respiratory & Cardiovascular Systems

  • Digestive, Urinary, & Reproductive Systems

  • Immune, Endocrine, & Nervous Systems

Key Features & Highlights:

  • Over 1,000 Custom Illustrations: Complex physiological concepts and internal bodily mechanisms are brought to life with more than a thousand specially created visual aids, making the knowledge directly applicable to your practice.

  • Classical vs. Supported Practice: Learn how the body's physiological responses shift when moving between classical asanas and supported variations using props.

  • Accessible Yet Precise Language: Written in an inviting, straightforward style, the book is completely accessible to dedicated practitioners without a medical background, while remaining rigorous enough for yoga therapists and healthcare experts.

  • The Iyengar & Āyurveda Synergy: The core of the book integrates modern western physiology with the precise principles of Iyengar Yoga. To provide a truly holistic perspective, the final chapter introduces physiology through the traditional lens of Āyurveda, offering a profound, well-rounded Indian understanding of the body and its processes.

About the Author: Dr. Hermann Traitteur

Dr. Hermann Traitteur brings an extraordinary dual perspective to the page. He first encountered Iyengar Yoga in Munich during the late 1980s. In 1990, he relocated to Berlin, where he studied medicine and began his clinical career in orthopedics. During his medical studies, he traveled to the United States to complete a Teacher Training Program at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco.

Certified by the IYNAUS, Dr. Traitteur has continuously advanced his education through annual stays studying directly under the Iyengar family at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, India.

In 1994, alongside Claudia Böhm (and later joined by Annette Herrenleben), he established Yoga Mitte, which with B.K.S. Iyengar's personal blessings was renamed the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Berlin. Today, alongside teaching, he runs a dedicated yoga therapy practice, serves as a principal lecturer and assessor for teacher training programs across Germany, and holds a medical dissertation (2012) specifically studying the healing effects of Iyengar Yoga on chronic neck pain.

Enrich your practice, safeguard your body, and ground your teaching in true physiological wisdom. Add Dr. Hermann Traitteur’s newest release to your library today.
