How to Start Intuitive Writing?

Intuitive writing, also known as free writing, is a technique that can help you tap into your creativity, emotions, and subconscious mind by allowing your thoughts to flow onto the page without self-censorship or judgment. Here are some steps to start intuitive writing in a journal:

  1. Find a quiet, comfortable space where you can write without distractions (you can create a little relaxation ritual beforehand: yoga, meditation, burning incense, lighting a candle, use crystals etc).

  2. free writing in journal

Set a timer for a specific amount of time, such as 10 or 15 minutes, to help you stay focused and committed to the process. If you wish to make it a routine, try and stick to a specific time of the day: with morning coffee, before going to bed...

  3. Start writing whatever comes to mind, without worrying about grammar, spelling, or punctuation. Don't worry about making sense or organizing your thoughts, just allow your thoughts and feelings to flow onto the page (be creative, use drawings, doodles etc).

  4. Don't judge or criticize what you're writing. Remember that this is a safe and private space for you to express yourself without fear of judgment.

  5. If you get stuck or don't know what to write, try writing down a prompt or question to get your mind moving. For example, you could write down "What am I feeling right now?" or "What do I want to create in my life?". Alternatively, you can randomly open a book to get inspired by a subject or draw a tarot card.

  6. Keep writing until the timer goes off or until you feel like you've expressed everything you need to say. You might find that you want to continue writing beyond the timer or that you want to write for a shorter or longer period of time in the future.

  7. Once you're finished, take a moment to reflect on what you wrote. You might find that certain themes or emotions emerged, or that you gained new insights into yourself or your life.

Intuitive writing can be a helpful tool for self-reflection, creative expression, and personal growth. By giving yourself permission to write without judgment, you can unlock new ideas and perspectives that might not have surfaced otherwise.
